In order to design the best dual band truck mount antenna possible, Wilson focused on 2 major areas. The first is the antenna itself which must have its gain maximized both on the 800 MHz band and also on the 1900 MHz band. Wilson accomplished this by using a phasing coil and a low loss coaxial phase reversing device that provides high gain on both frequencies. The second design area is the ground which allows proper antenna return currents on the lower 800 MHz frequency as well as the higher 1900 MHz frequency. Wilson's design makes the dual band trucker antenna independent of the ground where the antenna is mounted.
